On a typical Friday, our Adoptions Manager Zama was on his way to work at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA when he met Marius, a homeless man. Marius stopped Zama to thank him and the team at the SPCA for the important work we do in caring for animals.
As he walked away, Marius returned running and reached into his pocket, pulling out a small coin of R5. He handed the coin to Zama and said, “I have nothing but this will add to what you have to look after animals.”
This simple act of generosity was truly overwhelming, as Zama knew that Marius didn’t even have enough food for himself.
What was so beautiful to watch was that even in the midst of his own difficulties, Marius still found a way to give what little he had to help animals.
His kind and selfless gesture is a reminder that we all have the power to make a difference, no matter how small our contribution may seem.
Marius also shared with Zama that his wish is to find a safe home someday so that he can own a dog.
This statement highlights the importance of pets in our lives and how they provide companionship, love, and a sense of belonging. Owning a pet can be especially valuable for individuals like Marius who may not have many other sources of emotional support.
As an organisation that relies on donations and community support, we are grateful for the generosity of individuals like Marius.
Marius’s story is a reminder that even in the midst of difficult times, we can all find ways to give back and make a difference. His selflessness and generosity are qualities that we can all aspire to, and we hope that his story inspires others to do the same.
Thank you, Marius, for your kindness and for reminding us of the importance of caring for animals in our community.
We are calling on the public to be inspired by Marius’s act of kindness and consider donating just R5 to our Adoptions Centre.
We are currently in desperate need of an industrial washing machine to help us wash the blankets and towels we use to care for the animals in our Adoptions Centre.
It is only through YOUR support that we can continue to help animals to have a chance for a better future.
The SPCA receives no funding from the government and relies on donations from the public in order to function
