Because every tail deserves a happy ending…

Happy Tails

Possibly the best part of everything we do at the SPCA is our Happy Homings.

To see the joy on the faces of the new families and the sheer delight of the animals they adopt makes all the blood, sweat and tears worthwhile.

Many of the animals who come through our doors have been rescued from situations of such diabolical cruelty it is hard to imagine.

Others have endured traumas such as abandonment, bereavement from a deceased and beloved owner, getting lost and finding themselves stray… their hearts beat as ours and they feel emotions just as deeply.

Reading progress

In February, Aiden and other passersby noticed a dog running around wildly in the vicinity of Airport Industria. They could immediately see that the dog was lost and confused. The poor dog was running frantically between cars and it took almost four hours for the group to secure her safely. Aiden managed to help her into a vehicle, where she was transferred to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

After a few days, Kylie (as we had named her) had still not settled. She would growl when anyone would approach the gate, indicating she was dealing with her trauma. We had no further information as to where she had come from and no-one had come to claim her after her 10 day Pound period. We contacted Aiden to inform him that Kylie had not yet settled. He was distraught and said he would like to come and visit her.

Once he and his wonderful partner came in, they decided to start the Adoption process. We moved Kylie to our Adoptions pod and she made small improvements. By the time Aiden and his partner Kedan came to visit, she was more relaxed. She was quite wary of Aiden, being tall and largely built, and he committed to coming in to visit Kylie with chicken to help build up the relationship. And it worked! Then the big day came for them to bring their dogs along to meet Kylie-what a success this was! Their beautiful Africanis and big Bulldog were exactly what Kylie needed.

She was immediately relaxed, playful and even came to Aiden and Kylie for cuddles. Soon after, the home inspection was arranged and approved, and Kylie went home with one of the heroes who helped rescue her from the N2 Highway! What a miracle couple and wonderful fur-siblings this special girl has found!

Over the past few weeks we said farewell to some very special cats. We were ecstatic when sweet Rainbow, Clove and Mommy cat Lindi found forever homes. Lindi’s kitten Lulu also found herself a loving new home with SPCA cat sister Sparks. The two are already besties and cuddling together! Zola’s doting mom also has informed us that he is being spoiled and we all know how much he loves being a lap cat!

Topsy went to her very special and loving new family. This wonderful family provides so much love to humans in need and we are so grateful they chose Topsy to be part of their family.

Zoe and Winston found loving new homes too! Sweet Fifi has also been swept off her tiny feet to her very own home where she will be sleeping indoors! Fifi’s new family popped in to visit and were so happy with their new little companion!

Darlings Goodness and Cardi were also so excited to go off to their forever homes as well! These youngsters are going to families who have invested in what they know they are taking on and are all so excited for their new journeys! It is always so rewarding to have families who are excited about helping their new furry family members settle into their new exciting lives!

Some of our sweet ex-SPCA family members sent us some adorable updates on their new lives and adventures!

Elijah and Roxy (adopted 2020) were so excited to welcome a little JR friend into their lives! We’re told the new short legs boss these two beauties around and that all enjoy cuddling together! What a lucky bunch of dogs!

Greta sent us some adorable updates too! This is one happy, traveling little girl! Greta takes on mountains, hills, beach visits and loves going to coffee shops too! What a lucky dog!

Joseph, now Jo, popped in to say hi. His wonderful family has adopted two cats from the SPCA before. They have another dog, rabbits and a home filled with love. Jo’s amazing mom Robyn popped to visit with the stunning boy, and told us how life-changing adopting Jo has been for them all. We often forget just how many souls are impacted for the better, by the adoption of a furry member. What wonderful feedback for our Adoptions Team to hear!

Pam, Aggies & Daisy sent us adorable updates of how they like to spend colder winter afternoons! Hunter agrees that being tucked in is just the best!

Kane sent us updates of how much he is loved! This giant, gentle and loving boy is known for racing through the house with his Dalmation sister, and being an all-round loved boy by his dads! What a happy life he is living now-distant memories and far from his cold days of just being in a yard.

And finally, we received this adorable update of sweet Dot who has been on so many new adventures-including her first boat trip! This sweet girl and her brother enjoy so many activities together and she is so loved!
