The SPCA’s 5 Golden AniPal Pet Care Rules

Reading progress

One of the top causes of animal cruelty is ignorance.

Let’s teach our children so that they can learn from a young age how to care for animals.

Parents and teachers, please share the information below and have your kids watch the fun video to learn all about what an AniPal is and how to care for pets.

AniPals - Pet Care Rules For Kids

Lucille from our Education Department teaches us all about what a great AniPal does!

An AniPal is someone who loves, cares for, and provides their pet with everything they need to keep happy and healthy.

The 5 Golden Rules:

1. Food and water

Just like you, your pet needs food and water to survive, every single day.

2. Shelter

Shelter to protect them from the wind, the sun, and the rain.
Their bedding and baskets should be washed regularly.

3. Health

Vaccinations to stop them from getting diseases.
Get them treated for ticks, fleas, and worms.
Take them to the vet when they are sick.
An animal that is healthy means healthy families and healthy communities.
Healthy animals are happy animals.

4. Excercise

Just like we love to play, we need to take them for a walk come rain or shine every single day.
Take them to the beach, play with them in the garden, and throw them a ball.
Spend time with them, brush them, let them know you care.

5. Sterilisation

This is a special operation to stop dogs and cats from having unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.
Food is extremely expensive and there just aren’t enough good homes for all those pets to go to.

The SPCA is all about prevention: preventing disease, and unwanted litters.

Do your bit, be an AniPal today!

From Mrs Jenelle Barron of Future Legends Educare - "Thank you for an extremely informative time which you shared with our learners at Future Legends Educare in Eerste River. For most of our learners it was their first experience watching a puppet show. Cape of Good Hope SPCA with their wonderful staff really nurture the minds of our learners and explained the importance of caring for animals."
