Meet Power Poodle

All Guts, No Glory – The Hero We’ve Been Waiting For!

Cape Town, are you ready for a new kind of hero?

No cape, just curls. No flashy gadgets, just heart and determination. Power Poodle, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s newest mascot, is hitting the streets, taking on the Sanlam Cape Town 42.2 km Marathon, and raising his paw for change!

With his fluffy ears flapping in the wind and a determined glint in his eye, Power Poodle has his sights set on more than just a medal. He’s running for every single stray, unwanted, and forgotten animal. Why? Because the SPCA took in 23,621 stray and unwanted animals last year. That’s 23,621 animals without homes, without families, without love. It’s an unacceptable number. It’s an unsustainable number. It’s a heartbreaking number. Power Poodle is here to change that.

On A Marathon of a Mission

You might spot Power Poodle looking slightly ridiculous as he bounds along the marathon route—fur flying, tail wagging, and maybe the odd moment of stopping to sniff around (hey, even heroes need a break!). But make no mistake—Power Poodle is running with purpose. He’s protesting the sad reality that too many animals live unwanted and unloved. He’s not just running for fun – he’s running to fund sterilisation efforts and help end the cycle of pet overpopulation.

Why sterilisation? Because we believe in preventing suffering before it starts. We believe in a world where every dog is wanted, where every stray has a forever home, and where shelters aren’t overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals needing care. Sterilisation is the first step toward this reality—it’s how we stop the cycle of unwanted and unloved animals.

All Guts, No Glory

Power Poodle isn’t running for the glory. He’s running because he’s got guts, and he’s willing to go the distance (all 42.2 kilometres of it!) for his furry friends who can’t run for themselves. It’s guts, not glory, that drives him to fight for change—and it’s that same guts that’s got him challenging seven other Cape Town mascots to a mascot dash this past Sunday, 6th October 2024.

That’s right, Power Poodle officially threw down the gauntlet and challenged these heavyweights: Themba (Cape Town Tourism), Manzi (City of Cape Town Water and Sanitation), Blood Buddy (Western Cape Blood Services), Rocket (KFM), Siga (Six Gun Grill), Max (Remax Premiere Claremont), and even his own teammate, Captain Crow-a-Lot (SPCA) to a dash along the Sea Point Promenade. He may be the new kid on the block, but Power Poodle proved his point – He’s got what it takes to make a difference that no other mascot can.

The Hero We Need Right Now

Picture this: Power Poodle, fur bouncing, running like the superhero he is. What else do you call someone who’s standing up for the voiceless and taking action for those who can’t speak for themselves? He’s our four-legged advocate for the strays, the forgotten, and the abused. And, let’s face it, he’s doing it with way more style than any of us ever could!

But Power Poodle knows he can’t do this alone. No superhero ever does! Behind every great hero is an even greater team—and he needs you on his!

Here’s How You Can Support His Mission:

  1. Donate to his fundraiser – Every cent helps us provide more sterilisations and prevent more animals from ending up on the streets.
  2. Share Power Poodle’s story – Help spread the word about his mission and the urgent need for change.
  3. Cheer him on – Whether you’re running alongside him or watching from the side-lines, your support makes all the difference.

They say superheroes are born, not made. Well, we’re pretty sure Power Poodle was born for this moment—to tackle 42.2 kilometres with more grit than the average marathoner and even more love in his heart!

So, what do you say? Will you run with Power Poodle (in spirit or in sneakers) and be part of something bigger? Will you join forces with him to make sure that every dog has the chance to be loved, wanted, and cared for?

Let’s do this! For Power Poodle, for the 23,621, and for every animal waiting to be loved.

Ready, set, support!
