Caring for animals in a crisis

Caring for animals in crisis

We’re in this together – in lockdown – but the one thing that can’t get locked down is your love for animals . . .

. . . and we’re hoping that you’ll show it now, by supporting our ongoing work for animals during this time. Your donation will help to ensure that it’s all systems go despite our stretched staff and supplies.

Just days into lockdown we treated a dog that had suffered severe bite wounds – giving him emergency care so that he wouldn’t suffer more trauma, pain and infection.

What a nightmare it would be if we weren’t able to help injured and sick animals! Please make sure that doesn’t happen. When you donate by clicking here now, you send a clear message to our 23 staff members who are living and working on our premises under trying conditions . . .

… a message that says: ‘You are not alone. I can’t be with you, but I can help you!’

Our Inspectors, kennel staff, vet, and other team members also have families and pets at home. They’re as worried as the rest of us. But they put on a brave face, push their fears aside – and carry on caring for animals because they are dedicated and determined.

Lockdown, coronavirus, self-isolation – all of it means nothing to an abandoned, abused, or injured animal. What does, is the soothing kindness that our Inspectors, animal nurses, and kennel team offer them. This is why we’re asking you to please support our work now: animal rescue, relief – and brave hearts of courage and caring.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion during this time. Together, we will overcome.

You may find these tips useful. Please share them with your friends and family.

– Dog walking is not allowed during the lockdown. Follow our Facebook page for tips on how to compensate for this.- If your pet gets sick, call your local vet to find out if you can bring your pet in. Vets are an essential service.
– If you find a stray animal in need of help, call the Cape of Good Hope SPCA on 0217004158/9 during office hours or 0833261604 after hours.

Thanks again for your support! We count on you as much as the animals count on us.

Inspector Jeffrey is always loving to each animal he helps.
