From the start of lockdown up to and including the 15th of April 2020, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA admitted 304 stray animals, took in 271 surrendered animals, admitted 126 animals to our animal hospital and treated 651 animals as our patients via our clinics.
Our Inspectors have collected 354 animals (strays, surrenders and animals in need of treatment) and responded to 154 cruelty complaints. Covid-19 has not stopped animal cruelty and neglect, it has not stopped traumatic injuries to animals (including shootings, stabbings, bite wounds and motor vehicle accidents), it has not stopped Parvo Virus or tick borne diseases and it has not stopped animals from needing us. It has also not stopped us from being there for them.
The pandemic has however stopped us from hosting one of our biggest annual fundraising events – The Absolute Pets SPCA Woefie Wandel. The +/- R150 000.00 that your attendance at this event usually means for us is needed now more than ever. International trends forecast a 43% decline in charitable donations and a 48% increase in the need for services as the economic impact of the Pandemic takes its toll.
We are bracing ourselves for what lies ahead but in these uncertain times we remain sure of one thing, with your help we can ensure that; no animal will suffer during this pandemic, during the lockdown or in the aftermath of Covid-19.
We kindly ask that you donate your R55 you were going to spend on a ticket for the event, to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
Use this special reference code: AP-SPCA20; and you will go into a lucky draw to win an Absolute Pets hamper to the value of R1 000.
We encourage you to join us in helping our furry friends in need. Donate between 19 and 27 April to stand a chance to WIN!
