In 2022, Tienie Maree embarked on a remarkable journey, one that would test not only his physical endurance but also his determination to make a difference in the lives of animals. He made a significant decision to purchase an entry for the grueling Munga MTB race, fully aware that this challenge would be among the most demanding experiences of his life. However, Tienie had a purpose beyond personal achievement; he wanted his efforts to count for something more.
Tienie drew inspiration from his faithful animal companions, who had been his solace during a difficult period in his life. Motivated by their unwavering support, he resolved to give back to those animals less fortunate than his own. To share his journey and raise awareness for this noble cause, he created a blog detailing his experiences throughout the Munga race in 2022.
While completing the world’s toughest race was undoubtedly a personal triumph, Tienie’s most significant achievement lay in the remarkable generosity of like-minded individuals who rallied behind his cause. Together, they managed to raise an astounding amount, over R51,000, which directly contributed to the mission of finding loving homes for more than 600 animals.
Tienie’s campaign garnered substantial attention through social media, generating invaluable publicity for Munga 4 Mutts. The estimated media value, including print, radio, and online exposure, exceeded an impressive R260,000.
Throughout his arduous journey, Tienie felt profoundly humbled by the multitude of people who followed his progress, both on social media and the race’s tracking page. They admired his dedication and applauded his efforts to make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
Despite the immense challenges posed by the Munga 2022 race, Tienie found it to be a profoundly rewarding experience. This satisfaction and his unwavering commitment to his cause have led him to return for the Munga MTB event scheduled from November 29 to December 4, 2023.
This time, his mission is clear: he will be Riding for Rosie and the countless other dogs, like her, who find themselves surrendered to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, continuing his remarkable journey to make a positive impact on the lives of animals in need.
