A Prickly Predicament for Shamus

Reading progress

Seasoned adventurer, fifteen-year-old Shamus, recently found himself in quite a prickly predicament after a garden intruder he undertook to investigate turned out to be a Porcupine out for a stroll. Shamus unfortunately came off second best after their brief encounter. His panicked owner rushed him to our clinic but Shamus, with the wisdom of his years, didn’t seem too distressed by his newly acquired porcupine quill accessories.

Our team soon had Shamus quill-free and pain-free and he was back home quicker than you can say “Porcupines Prickles”. Shamus is no doubt sleeping off his meds and will be ready for his next adventure by morning.

If you’re ever in a similar situation:
  1. Stay Calm: If your pet has a close encounter with a porcupine, keep calm and avoid pulling the quills out yourself, as this can cause more damage.
  2. Seek Professional Help Quickly: Contact your veterinarian for proper removal and treatment to prevent infection.

A Gift That Lasts Past A Lifetime

It was a bequest made by the late Val Gorfinkel that enabled our Animal Hospital to receive a much-needed revamp about 16 years ago. That upgrade helped ensure that 40 000 animals received veterinary help during the past year.

Find out how to become an Animal Guardian by leaving a gift for us in your will.
