On their way to Kuilsrivier along the busy R300, a compassionate couple spotted—a terrified cat clinging to a fence in the middle of the highway. Without hesitation, the couple turned their car around and rescued the injured stray. Gigi, as they would later name him, was in terrible shape.
Dehydrated, glassy-eyed, and stiff with fear, he was in desperate need of help. But their mission to save Gigi wasn’t without challenges. One by one, local vets turned them away, until their determination finally led them to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, where Gigi received the life-saving care he needed. He had lacerations to his face, a severely damaged paw, and burn wounds. We suspect Gigi, wandered into the wrong garden, had boiling water thrown at him and was struck by a car when he fled in panic.
And as if rescuing him wasn’t enough, Giovanni and Anushka have visited Gigi every single day since his ordeal, offering a kind of healing that no medicine can provide. It’s love you see, that stitches together the wounds of emotional trauma and thanks to them, Gigi’s getting that in overdose.
It doesn’t take a cape or superpowers to make a difference—just a heart full of compassion and the will to act. Every day, people like Giovanni and Anuschka remind us that it’s kindness and compassion that truly saves lives.
