Maggie and Stephen Havenga had recently gone on a Sunday breakfast run with their two friends, Zelda van der Merwe and her partner Jacques Odendal. The couples enjoy cruising their motorcycles on scenic routes with the occasional stops to stretch their legs.
About an hour north of Kraaifontein, both couples stopped for a leg stretch where Stephen noticed movement in the long grass. Maggie said she initially thought it was a snake. On closer inspection, they discover two abandoned kittens dumped on the side of the road.
Stephen first tried to secure one of the kittens in the front of his biker jacket, but they were already so scared they scratched in defense. At this point, he decided to drive his motorcycle back to his home to fetch his vehicle, some cat food and water, while Maggie and accompanying friends look after the kittens.
On Stephan’s return with the vehicle, he safely secured the kittens in the car. The couple decided to adopt both kittens as their own and named them Blackie and Ginger.
Maggie said, ” Blackie and Ginger both had their vaccination and deworming done at the SPCA Mobile Clinic in Brackenfell. Thank you for serving the people and taking care of our animals”.
Thank you, Maggie, Stephen, Zelda and Jacques for giving both Blackie and Ginger a chance.
