The Remarkable Rescue of Rocky

Reading progress

A Symbol of Hope and Second Chances

A disheartening scene was reported to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA: a malnourished boxer dog, tied up, deprived of food, water, and proper shelter. This is the story of Rocky, whose name was decided through a heartwarming collaboration of our supporters and staff.

Rocky’s Condition Upon Rescue

Boxer dogs, by standard, weigh between 30 kg to 36 kg. Distressingly, Rocky was a mere 19 kg when our team rescued him – a saddening testament to the extent of his neglect. It was evident that he had been starved for a prolonged period.

Rocky’s dire state came to light when our Inspectors discovered him tied up, without access to basic necessities. His shelter was broken. He had no water and was starved. Such conditions are unthinkable and cruel for any animal.

Fortunately, a compassionate individual reported this grave situation, allowing us to intervene swiftly. It’s imperative to highlight that these rescue missions are only feasible due to our generous donors. As a nonprofit organisation relying exclusively on public donations, every contribution plays a pivotal role in saving lives like Rocky’s.

We sincerely urge our supporters to consider donating towards Rocky’s rehabilitation. With an estimated 15 kilograms to gain before reaching his ideal weight, and the need for consistent care until he’s ready for rehoming, every cent makes a difference. Your support not only aids Rocky but also provides countless others like him with a renewed shot at life.

Choosing Rocky’s Name

Our supporters played a pivotal role in naming this brave soul. After gathering the top five names suggested by our generous supporters, our staff voted and chose the name ‘Rocky’ – fitting for a fighter like him.

Rescue and Recovery

Today, Rocky is under the loving care of our animal hospital. Though he is showing signs of improvement, his road to recovery is long. He needs to gain approximately 15 kilograms to reach a healthy weight, and once fit, will be moved to the Animal Care Centre. Our goal? To nurture him back to optimal health and find him a forever home.

A Plea to the Community

As a nonprofit orginsation, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA relies heavily on the kindness and generosity of the public. The story of Rocky is one of many, and without your donations, our hands are tied. We humbly appeal to you to contribute to Rocky’s rehabilitation and the welfare of countless other animals awaiting their second chance.

Every animal deserves compassion, dignity, and a life free from suffering. We remain committed to rescuing and rehabilitating animals like Rocky, ensuring they get a chance at a brighter future. We are deeply grateful for our community’s continued support in these endeavours.

Let Rocky’s story be a beacon of hope and a stark reminder that together, we can make a difference.
