In the midst of the recent Cape Storm, while relentless rain and howling winds battered our city, SPCA Inspectors were on a rescue mission—searching for animals in distress in the most vulnerable areas. It was during these efforts, that they came across Langa (whose name means “Sun”), huddled against a palisade fence.
19 Jul 2024: Langa has a song in her heart, and her spirit is shining as brightly as the sun she was named after. Her head wounds are healing well, and we can’t believe the incredible difference in just a few days.
Every person who stops by her kennel is greeted with a sweet serenade, a little song of thanks – a gift straight from her joyful heart.
We can’t rehome her just yet, she isn’t quite well enough, and she’s come into season and can’t be sterilised without risk. We would however love it if you could email your expressions of interest to our adoptions team on adoptions@spca-ct.co.za and we can let you know as soon as she’s ready to meet you!
Thank you for loving dogs like Langa back to health. We couldn’t do this without you, your support is life-saving and life-changing.
17 Jul 2024: The weather had turned severe, and she was left bleeding, frozen, and abandoned after being brutally stoned and beaten. Her “crime” it seems was pooping in front of someone else’s house.
A Good Samaritan alerted our Inspectors to her plight and stood by to help us with her rescue. Langa was frozen stiff from fear and the cold and had visible wounds to her head. When our Inspector Rowan Davids picked her up, Langa instinctively nuzzled into his neck. Terrified and vulnerable, she clung to the kindest presence she had sensed in days. She was swiftly admitted to our animal hospital where she was warmed up and received urgent medical care.
While the Cape faces further disruptive rain this week, the sun has certainly broken through Langa’s storm and she is recovering well in our care. Sadly, the individuals responsible for her suffering are long gone, and there will be no recourse for Langa’s pain. But, we are determined to ensure that from now on, she’ll only know warmth and not just the warmth a blanket gives, but the warmth of love, care, and compassion. Something every animal deserves.
Thank you for keeping our Inspectors on the road so they can step in and stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Because of you, Langa has gone from cruelty to care and she’ll never endure suffering ever again.
Thank you for supporting our life-saving emergency response work, thank you for looking out for animals in your communities. We can’t do this without you. Make a donation today and help more dogs like Langa!
