This past weekend, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA joined forces with the one and only Bowtie Property Guy for our inaugural beach clean-up, and WOW, what a day it was! With gloves on, bags in hand, and Bingo—the City’s beloved mascot—leading the charge, volunteers turned out in numbers to tackle the trash lurking on our beautiful shoreline.
From tiny tots to seasoned environmentalists, everyone chipped in to fill a bakkie load of litter!
Plastic Never Goes Away—Unless We Remove It
Let’s get real! Plastic on our beaches and in the ocean doesn’t just disappear. It lingers for decades, threatening marine life in ways we can’t ignore. Fishing lines strangle seals and dolphins. Plastic bags clog the stomachs of sea turtles, who mistake them for jellyfish. Birds become ensnared in waste, unable to fly.
Every single wrapper, every strand of fishing line, and every stray bottle cap left on the beach is a potential death sentence for marine animals. But here’s the good news – we have the power to stop it. Removing plastic saves lives—and every effort matters.
We Made Waves Together
The event was a triumph, thanks to the support of our dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors. Shoutout to Catch 22 Grill, Salt & Sage Blouberg, and Washworx, who—together with Bowtie Property Guy—ensured we had gloves, bags, and refreshments to keep the momentum going and some incredible prizes to give away to the eco-warriors who collected the most litter!
With Bingo bringing smiles, families working side by side, and a shared sense of purpose, we took a stand for marine life, our environment and the future and we couldn’t be more thankful to each and every person who came to help!
Join The Movement
This is just the beginning. Plastic never goes away—unless it’s removed. The ocean can’t save itself, but together, we can.
