THE TRUE STORY OF A DOG WHO TOOK A BULLET TO PROTECT HER FAMILY

Myra isn’t a large or aggressive dog but when her family was in danger, she did not hesitate. In August 2015, an armed man entered her house. After shooting the mother and father of the household, the man had one bullet left. The rest of the family stood in front of him. Myra placed herself between the gun and the family, taking a bullet that shattered her leg to pieces. The couple died in the attack, but the dog’s bravery under fire saved their childrens’ lives.

Myra needed emergency veterinary care but they couldn’t afford to take her to a vet. Thankfully they knew about our service for less fortunate pet owners and brought the dog to us.

The children of the late owners have brought her back for vaccinations, sterilisation and regular checkups to make sure the wound is healing properly. And every time we see this little dog, we are reminded what true courage is.

The voices used are from actual interviews with the surviving family members. Identities have been withheld for their own safety.
