During the 23/24 financial year, 23,621 stray and unwanted animals came through our doors. Animals are in crisis and so are we! This must stop! We have to act now!
We are directly addressing the root cause of pet overpopulation and the resultant neglect of unwanted animals with aggressive sterilisation drives in several communities. Each sterilisation undertaken prevents suffering before it starts, reduces the strain on our facilities, and provides a better quality of life for pets and their owners.
Our efforts to support the community of Atlantis have been underway for almost a month. Yesterday, our Inspectorate, in collaboration with the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement: Animal Control Unit, returned to the suburb of Sherwood Park in Atlantis for the third consecutive week to provide essential primary health care and free sterilisation services to the community’s pets.
So far, 284 animals have been seen, dewormed, and vaccinated against rabies, and 113 animals have been sterilised. Our sterilisation drives and community outreaches are investments in a kinder world for animals, safer, healthier communities, and a sustainable future for animal welfare.
