Justice for Abused Jack

After Black Crossbreed, Jack was rescued from his life of misery at the end of a short chain in September 2024, SPCA Inspectors ensured that his severely negligent Grassy Park owner, Richard Leo, would have to answer for his cruel treatment of this innocent dog.

Not only was Jack tethered with a tight chain that created a festering wound around his neck, he was also infested with parasites, underweight and anaemic.

In April this year, 76-year-old Leo was sentenced for his crime, receiving a lifetime ban on animal ownership and the immediate forfeiture of any other animals in his custody, a fine of R8000 or eight months in prison (partially suspended), and he was also ordered to reimburse the Cape of Good Hope SPCA R5000 for Jack’s care.

While we wish that Jack had never had to endure that suffering in the first place, we salute the support of our wonderful donors who ensure that our SPCA Inspectors can respond to cruelty cases like Jack’s – and give animals a second chance with good people who are worthy of them.
