Short-term solutions met long-term vision at the Langa Library this morning, where young learners gathered for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Ani-Pals puppet show!
This award-winning program, endorsed by the Western Cape Department of Education, brings kindness and responsible pet care to life for foundation-phase learners.
With colourful characters and engaging storytelling, Ani-Pals introduces children to the five essential rules of pet care:
– Food and water
– Proper shelter
– Veterinary care
– Exercise
– And most importantly, sterilisation.
While sterilisation addresses the urgent pet overpopulation crisis – 23,621 animals came through our doors last year- Ani-Pals looks further ahead.
By educating children, we’re planting the seeds of empathy and responsibility, creating a future where kindness shapes our communities.
In Langa, where the SPCA recently conducted a pet census and offered free sterilisation services to actively reduce the amount of unwanted animals, Ani-Pals added a deeper layer of impact.
Ani-Pals is so much more than just learning about caring for animals today—it’s about empowering the next generation to build a better tomorrow.
Every child who left the library this morning carried more than just a smile—they left with the knowledge and passion to make a difference.
