The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that a significant cold front is expected to bring adverse weather conditions over the weekend into Monday (27-29 July 2024). An orange level 5 weather warning is in effect over Cape Town with predictions of more heavy downpours while the ground in many areas remains saturated.
We work closely with the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and attended yesterday’s planning meeting in preparation for the worst.
We will be on high alert to respond to all animal emergencies. During the last storm, we travelled almost 20,000 kilometres in just 4 days, spent over R47,000 in fuel, and logged 166 hours of overtime. It was worth it! More than 3,000 animals were assisted in the hardest-hit areas.
We’ve distributed blankets, food and kennels and taken animals in for safekeeping from the hardest hit areas. We can only hope we’ve done enough so that this storm, if it can’t be kinder to us, will at least be kinder to the animals.
Help Keep Our First Responders in the Fight!
Your support is crucial to keep our Inspectors in the ring, rescuing and protecting animals in need. Every donation gets us to where we need to be, when animals need us to be there! We can’t do it without you.
Precautions for Pet Owners:
1. Bring Pets Indoors: Ensure all pets are inside and safe from the cold, mudslides, and flooding.
2. Move to higher ground: If flooding becomes imminent, move yourself, pets and farm animal to higher ground.
3. Call us: if you need help evacuating your animals or come across any animals exposed to the elements, please call us on 0217004158/9. We are available on this number 24/7
