On November 17, 2024, Cape Town’s Green Point Park came alive with wagging tails, joyful laughter, and a palpable sense of unity as the Cape of Good Hope SPCA hosted its highly anticipated Woefie Wandel Dog Walk and Pet Fair. The event, proudly sponsored by Absolute Pets, saw a record-breaking 1,006 human participants and 668 dogs (plus one adventurous cat!), coming together to walk in solidarity for the 23,621 unloved and unwanted animals who came through the SPCA’s gates last year. With thanks to every person who bought a ticket, the incredible turnout resulted in almost R150,000 being raised. These funds will go directly towards providing shelter, loving care, and the hope of a second chance for animals still awaiting their forever homes.
Woefie Wandel 2024 Gets Underway
“Every dog deserves to know the joy and comfort of a loving family,” says Belinda Abraham, Spokesperson for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. “Woefie Wandel is a day for celebrating the love people have for their pets, but it’s also a reminder of the enormous need still out there. The support we’ve received this year—both in participation and in funds raised—is incredibly encouraging for our team who face a daily onslaught of unwanted and unloved animals. The SPCA takes in an average of 65 stray and unwanted animals every single day of the year. It isn’t easy for any of us and to have the community rally behind our efforts means more than words could possibly say”.
Bringing the laughs and leading the cause was Emcee Kurt Schoonraad
While the cause was sobering, the atmosphere was anything but. Green Point Park buzzed with excitement as families and their pets took part in the 1.2 km and 1.9 km walks, stepping out in solidarity with unloved and unwanted animals. The lively day featured a bustling pet fair, delicious food stalls, and fun activities for all ages. Emcee Kurt Schoonraad kept the crowd entertained with his quick wit and humour, balancing the seriousness of the cause with moments of laughter and connection.
The Power of Partnership
The success of this event was made possible by the steadfast support of Absolute Pets, a proud sponsor of the event for the past three years. Their ongoing partnership has helped elevate Woefie Wandel one of Cape Town’s most anticipated family events of the season.
“Absolute Pets shares our belief that every animal deserves love, care, and a safe home,” says Belinda Abraham, spokesperson for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. “Their sponsorship has allowed us to create an event that celebrates pets in loving homes while raising awareness and funds for those still waiting for that opportunity. We are incredibly thankful for their ongoing commitment to our cause”.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and made this day unforgettable.”
