UPDATE THE ACCUSED MAKE A SECOND COURT APPEARANCE

26TH APRIL 2021

Our Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse, made the trip to Hermanus once again today to represent Hector, the victim of a cruel beating at the very hands of those meant to care for him – his pet sitters!

Our thanks to Zelda la Grange and the Hermanus community for standing with us in the fight for justice for Hector!  It was a heartwarming moment to see around 50+ people adding their voice to ours!

The case was remanded until the 11th of June 2021 to allow for further investigation. We will be back and we will keep going back until the matter is heard and justice is served.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is currently investigating allegations of animal cruelty involving two pet sitters from Hermanus. The case has been handed over to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA for further investigation by the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA). CCTV footage of the abuse has widely circulated on social media.  In the footage, a puppy is seen to be beaten with an object and then cruelly picked up by the flesh of the neck and rump and thrown out of the door. The incident was reported to have taken place on 22 March 2021 in Hermanus. The owner of the puppy only became aware of the incident when the CCTV footage was watched afterwards. The owner is very distraught and wants justice.

Cape of Good Hope SPCA responds

We wish to assure our supporters that the case is in good hands. Our Inspectorate team made contact with the owner of the abused dog. We will be working closely with the owner to ensure that charges of animal cruelty are brought against the two pet sitters in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.
