As the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, PREVENTION is in our name. It’s at the heart of what we do. We would love to live in a world where all animals are treated with kindness and compassion. That’s why we are actively teaching young people and adults how to be good, kind pet owners.
Education Field Officers Bongani Giyose and Farrent Dlula recently spent a productive five days on an outreach programme in the Siqalo informal settlement near Mitchells Plain. Like many impoverished communities, Siqalo has many animal welfare problems, including ignorance of proper animal care, poor nutrition, parasite-infected pets and mange. Our dynamic duo provided a welcome helping hand, determined to help these animals by educating pet owners and offering care.
In just five days, Bongani and Farrent
* Dipped 94 dogs
* Dewormed 23 animals
* Brought 23 animals to the SPCA for sterilisation
* Admitted 18 unwanted animals to the SPCA
