Remember Dusty, the 12-year-old Nooitgedacht-cross pony that was walked on the N7 highway in his emaciated, injured state? As we reported in our last newsletter, his torturous journey ended when SPCA Inspector Jeffrey Mfini rescued him after being alerted to the pony’s plight by a caring member of the public.
Once back at the SPCA Horse Care Unit, Dusty’s wounds were treated, and he was placed on a special diet to help him regain his strength.
While Dusty’s owner and accomplices are facing criminal charges, Dusty’s faring a lot better. He was adopted by the wonderful Andrews family in Velddrif, and now enjoys running in wide open spaces, with the wind in his mane. Along with nutritious food, a warm stable and loads of love, what more could a rescued pony want?
Thank you to the Swartland SPCA for conducting Dusty’s pre-home inspection, and heartfelt thanks to the Glen Graze Rescue Sanctuary for helping with Dusty’s initial rescue.
