Plastic, waste and dozens of pollutants that make their way into the ocean are destroying our marine environment – and life within them.
Alerted to the plight of a distressed Cape Fur Seal, SPCA Wildlife Inspectors rushed to the Sea Point Promenade to find the animal practically trapped by material wrapped around his flippers, neck and body.
After removing the waste, the Inspectors transported the distressed and dehydrated seal to the SPCA Wildlife Facility for veterinary assessment.
It took three days of specialist care, fluid administration and assisted feeding before the seal had regained enough strength to return to the ocean.
