When we called Heidl in December to tell her she was the latest Tails Up Club winner for November 2024, she was blown away! “I just couldn’t believe it,” she said, overwhelmed with joy. The R10,000 prize couldn’t have come at a better time—and for Heidl, it meant more than just a lucky win. It was an opportunity to continue her incredible mission of helping animals in need.
As a devoted animal lover, Heidl shares her home with several dogs and cats, all of whom are rescues. But her kindness doesn’t stop there. Every year, during her annual trip to a remote cottage in the Eastern Cape, she takes it upon herself to bring relief to local animals who have no access to veterinary care.
A Prize with Purpose
With no vets nearby, Heidl carries tick, flea, and deworming treatments, personally treating around 80 dogs each year. She also brings much-needed dog food for the local community’s pets. Thanks to her R10,000 Tails Up Club win, Heidl can now expand her efforts. “I’m so grateful to my vet for selling me medication at cost, and now, with this prize, I can do even more to help.”
