Beached Whale in Sea Point

Reading progress

Cape of Good Hope SPCA Wildlife Department responded to a call about a beached whale on Milton beach in Sea Point this morning. Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse was on the scene to determine if the whale was alive.   Once Inspector Pieterse reached the whale, he confirmed it was already dead at the time of his arrival.

The City of Cape Town has launched an operation to remove the deceased whale. Law Enforcement closed the beach off to the public.  Cause of death is still unknown.

Thank you to members of the public who reported the sighting of the beached whale to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

Throughout the year, the water temperature in Sea Point does not rise above 20°C and not suitable for comfortable swimming. The average water temperature in Sea Point in winter reaches 14°C, in spring 15°C, in summer the average temperature rises to 17°C, and in autumn it is 15°C.
