City officials charged in Baboon matter

Reading progress

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has opened criminal charges of animal cruelty at the Simons Town South African Police Service (SAPS), charging officials of the City of Cape Town and NCC Environmental Services with contraventions of the Animals Protection Act No. 71 of 1962. This following their failure to act on a warning issued by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA requiring them to seek veterinary treatment for an injured juvenile baboon of the Waterfall troop. The injured juvenile baboon was left to suffer for more than 6 days. The baboon had a fractured femur and had to be humanely euthanased at the SPCA. The Cape of Good Hope SPCA remains resolute in its mandate to prevent cruelty to all animals.
